I usually pass by this restaurant but it was only recently that I actually ate there. Songkran has a hole-in-the-wall vibe to it. When you enter the place, you feel as if you're suddenly transported to some side street of Bangkok and that you're not actually in the busy Makati CBD. The menu has got all the usual Thai suspects like fresh spring rolls, crispy catfish salad, pomelo and prawn salad, pad thai and of course all kinds of curry. I personally love the crispy catfish salad and the thom ka gai which is a chicken and galanggal-based soup and the yellow chicken curry. The prices of the dishes aren't bad, they're actually all quite affordable. All in all, this place is something I'll definitely go back to!

I found myself in Makati one day. I was hungry ang it was about 11am. I had just finished doing an errand and I wanted to get lunch. I was unfamiliar with the place so I decided to use the Yelp app. A few searches later, I went inside this Thai place. I had no idea what to expect. I had never even seen thai cuisine. The only thing I knew about thai cuisine was that they originated from Thailand. So I was quite puzzled when I tried choosing from their menu. There was a lot of foreign words. The pictures really helped. I decided to ask the waitress for their best sellers, specialties, and what they were made of. The girl answered all my questions and she was clear about everything. I tried choosing between their soup, rice toppings, and their most famous "Pad Thai". First of all, the Pad Thai was huge. It was a mound of flat noodles served on a large plate. It had a sour smell. There was a bit of crushed nots at the side, a lime wedge, some chicken, sprouted mongo, and the noodles. It was still hot. I used my chopsticks and slurped the noodles. It had a sour spicy taste. A new taste for me. The lime wedge helped to give it that sweet tangy taste. I liked their Pad Thai. For Php 205, it was really sulit. I mean two guys could split it. I'd like to come back to Songkran and try their other thai dishes. But I'd probably be back with friends so I have someone to split the Pad Thai with.

Songkran is a great place for a quick, delicious, filling AND affordable thai lunch in Makati. The service staff were quick, attentive, friendly. The food was delicious and generous with ingredients, the serving sizes were good. I even enjoyed that the lights were dimmed down slightly and that the place has a "haphazardly decorated basement" kind of feel to it; it was instantly relaxing and a nice break from the fury of the sun's heat beating down on the world outside. My companion and I ordered the pad thai, crispy catfish salad and the fresh vegetable spring rolls, and we loved all of them. The pad thai was served to us at the perfect just-warmed temperature, and the spring rolls were blissfully chewy, the rice wrap just thin enough for the taste of the vegetables inside to shine through. The sauces that came with everything were great as well! The vinaigrette on the crispy catfish salad was a perfectly complimentary sour-salty-sweet. I found myself eating everything at the same time, as if it were a "rice-and-ulam" combo.

It was love at first sight at Songkran. If you have trouble finding it in the streets of Makati, it is because its a hole in the wall restaurant, humbly located at Valero Car Parking Space. So far, even after a couple of visits, whatever I've order off their menu is satisfying. I was specially happy with their Shrimp Pad Thai. Note: If you are allergic, switch to chicken pad thai, it is also available for order! I always get their red beef curry whenever I visit. It's got enough of kick but not too spicy that its still makes eating it enjoyable. So yummy! And I don't know if we were just lucky, but one time, my friend requested for them to cooked beef basil which is not on the menu. Not only did they fulfilled our request, they also satisfied our taste buds. It's very generous of them to do that. Good thai food that's reasonably priced here at Songkran!

Set in the busy Valero Street, in the heart of Makati's Central Business District, this tiny restaurant offers authentic thai street food. When it comes to cost-benefit ratio, I consider Songkran a great choice in Salcedo Village. During lunch time, sometimes you have to wait in line, but it's worth it because the food is really tasty. I always order the pineapple rice with the fragrant jasmine scent. Their green chicken curry is a must-try for curry lovers. If you appreciate the classic thai cuisine, then pad thai is imperative. Pair your meal with the mint and lemongrass ice tea. To sum up, it's a simple restaurant with a surprisingly tasty food. Service is quick and efficient and the waiters are all very friendly. Ask for Ivo when you go to there. He's so lovely and will do everything for you to have a good time.
